Where to Dine in Chicago

Chicago’s restaurant scene is a vibrant culinary mosaic that rivals any major city in the world. From world-renowned fine dining to inventive neighborhood gems, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Treat yourself to the elegance of Alinea, a three-Michelin-star experience where food becomes art, or savor bold Latin flavors at Topolobampo, helmed by celebrity chef Rick Bayless. For an unforgettable steakhouse experience, Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse and Maple & Ash deliver classic Chicago indulgence with style. Craving deep-dish? You can’t miss iconic spots like Lou Malnati’s or Pequod’s, famous for their caramelized crusts and rich tomato sauces. Adventurous diners will enjoy the creative tasting menus at Smyth or the sleek, globally-inspired small plates at Girl & the Goat. At the Purple Pig, you'll enjoy your "unexpected unusual dining experience". Whether you’re networking over brunch or winding down after a day of sessions, Chicago offers an exceptional culinary journey just steps from the conference.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

The world-famous “Chicago dog” is a savory treat whose reputation is surpassed only by its tantalizing tastiness. Put an all-beef frank in a poppy seed bun, decorate the top with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato, and sport peppers, then add a dash of celery salt. Remember, on Chicago-style dogs, no ketchup is allowed!

One classic spot to try a Chicag-style dog is Portillo’s in the Loop and South Loop. Or head to the neighborhoods and try The Wieners Circle in Lincoln Park, Jim’s Original in Little Italy, and Redhot Ranch, with locations in Bucktown and Lakeview. If you’re looking for a bite of Chicago history, family-owned Dave’s Red Hot opened in 1938, making it one of the oldest hot dog stands in the city.

Deep Dish Pizza

With all due respect to the Chicago-style hot dog, some will insist that deep dish pizza is truly the most local of local foods. We’re not going to take sides, though. The origins of deep dish have been lost to history, though Uno Pizzeria & Grill (reputed to be the first to serve it) has been pleasing customers with their take on the local specialty since 1943.

What makes deep dish special? Well, for starters it’s not just a flat dough base — tall walls of buttery crust hold in loads of mozzarella, topped off with tangy tomato sauce. These hefty pies are overflowing with melty cheesy goodness. Find more deep dishes at Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s East, and Giordano’s.

German Fare

Beer and brats are Chicago staples, and The Berghoff serves some of the best. This family-owned restaurant has been in business since 1898 — an era when a beer cost a nickel and came with a complimentary sandwich on the side. Another historical nugget: The Berghoff obtained the first liquor license in Chicago after Prohibition ended.
