PRESIDENT'S INVITATION

On behalf of the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists (WSA) Board of Directors, I invite you to join us at this year’s WSA 2025 Annual Meeting, Advancing Care, Navigating Challenges, Leading Change. We are excited to host this year’s meeting at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, WI.

The Program Co-Chairs for this meeting, Drs. Saied Assef, Brent Boettcher, and Joe Strosin, from Belin Memorial Hospital, Medical College of Wisconsin, and ProHealth Care, respectively, have organized a diverse and exciting program. Topics include Priorities and Perioperative Patient Safety, Evolving Tech & Anesthesia, Fast Facts on Opioids and Perioperative Pain, Surgery Center Issues, Professional Tensions with CRNAs and CAAs and a panel on NO2/Desflurane reduction, carbon footprint, and TIVA vs GA. We are also offering two workshops on Saturday, Point-of- Care Ultrasound and Regional Anesthesia.

Additionally, we have arranged a sunset dinner cruise around Lake Geneva following the Saturday program. There is a fee of $125 to attend. Round trip transportation, dinner, and one drink ticket are included in the fee.

      GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

      • Understand current priorities for research within the field of Anesthesiology
      • Gain knowledge of high impact clinical trials that will advance the field of Anesthesiology
      • To understand the current state of practice and what gaps are being targeted to improve workflow, safety, performance and wellbeing
      • To describe emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence, automation, wearable devices, and telemedicine—and evaluate their potential impact on anesthesiology practice and perioperative care
      • Envision the future landscape of anesthesia and perioperative medicine over the next 15 years and formulate strategies for integrating innovation to enhance patient care, efficiency, and provider well-being
      • Discuss special case study for improving mortality
      • Identify & discuss APSF patient safety initiatives
      • Analyze the implications of perioperative opioids and evaluate the evidence for preoperative weaning
      • Explain postoperative opioid prescribing guidelines, their impact on outcomes and strategies for integration into your clinical practice
      • Evaluate the evidence and limitations of opioid sparing techniques in perioperative period
      • Identify strategies for managing patients on medications for opioid use disorder
      • Examine perioperative management approaches for chronic pain technologies including neuromodulation and intrathecal pumps
      • Streamline perioperative workflows for efficient scheduling and optimize patient selection for the ASCs
